KOMAG develops systems for monitoring the operating parameters of machines and equipment, based on vibrodiagnostics, thermal imaging and machine geometry measurements. An example is the Shield Support Monitoring System (SSMS), for monitoring mining geometry of powered roof supports, developed within the RFCS PRASS III project. The system enables monitoring of the geometry of the roof support and predicts the rock mass behaviour for the occurrence of rock fall. The system enables wireless measurement of the geometry of individual parts of the roof support and measurement of the „tip to face” with an ultrasonic sensor. Data transmission is carried out by radio. This solution improves the work safety of the mining crew and technical safety of the longwall complex.
